Essentials of Skin Tear Management Module
The Essentials of Skin Tear Management module has been developed through an analysis of the literature and in accordance with National and International Standards for Skin Tear Management, consensus documents and evidence based-guidelines.
This module explores skin tear assessment, management and prevention strategies including:
- Skin anatomy and physiology
- Skin tear aetiology
- Skin tear risk factors such as advanced age, dependence for activities of daily living, and visible skin changes
- Maintaining a safe environment and effective handling techniques
- Classification using the Skin Tear Audit Research (STAR) Tool and dressing product selection.
The Essentials of Skin Tear Management module is suitable for students and practicing health professionals wishing to learn about skin tear prevention, assessment and management. It is recommended for those working in domiciliary health services, residential aged care facilities, hospitals, wound or outpatient clinics and community health services. Access to the module is for 12 months and you can jump in and out of the course as often as you want, with each module remembering where you left off.
This module is accredited by the Australian College of Nursing and The Australian College of Midwives for 6 hours of CPD. It is also accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a Category 2 QI&CPD activity and by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine as a PDP activity.
