The Assessment and Management of Pressure Injuries module has been developed using current evidence including the Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers/Injuries: Clinical Practice Guideline. The International Guideline and the Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers.

This module explores pressure injury assessment, management and prevention strategies including:

  • Pressure injury epidemiology and aetiology
  • Pressure injury risk screening, how to complete a pressure injury risk assessment and the tools recommended
  • How to conduct a skin assessment
  • Classification of pressure injuries using the NPUAP/EPUAP/PPPIA pressure injury classification system and subsequent treatment for each stage of pressure injury
  • Intervention strategies to prevent and manage pressure injuries including support surfaces and positioning.

The Assessment and Management of Pressure Injuries module is suitable for students and practicing health professionals wishing to learn about pressure injury prevention, assessment and management. It is recommended for those working in domiciliary health services, residential aged care facilities, hospitals, wound or outpatient clinics and community health services. Access to the module is for 12 months and you can jump in and out of the course as often as you want, with each module remembering where you left off.

This module is accredited by the Australian College of Nursing and The Australian College of Midwives for 6 hours of CPD. It is also accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a Category 2 QI&CPD activity and by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine as a PDP activity.
